By treating you and not a condition, I’m able to treat many symptoms and disease states that might not be listed here.

My medical practice is focused on integrating current medical research with traditional naturopathic and Chinese medicine patterns and treatments based on the needs of the individual. I strive to help you understand illness and move toward a state of health by understanding your life journey and designing a treatment plan that is individual to you.
I obtained my Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from the National University of Natural Medicine located in Portland, Oregon, where my training focused on primary medical care, cardiopulmonary medicine, and adjunctive cancer care. I obtained a concurrent Masters degree in Classical Chinese Medicine, with treatments focused on physical and internal medicine, as well as soul-spiritual supportive treatments. In addition to this practice style, I have a special interest in anthroposophic medicine – a comprehensive view of the human as a being of body, soul and spirit.
My approach to Chinese Medicine is through the exposure I’ve had to the philosophy and practice of 88th Daoist master of the Jade Purity Yellow Emperor Lao Zi School, Jeffrey Yuen, through my mentor Kenneth Glowacki, DACM, LAc. This includes Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Nutrition/Dietetics, the therapeutic use of Stones and Essential Oils with the use of the extraordinary vessels, and less commonly used channels. I have trained in treating musculoskeletal pain and injuries using various acupuncture techniques within this ongoing mentorship.
In addition to completing the degree requirements at NUNM, I have devoted my time to the principles and philosophy of anthroposophic medicine as a way to bridge the knowledge of Classical Chinese Medicine, biomedicine and naturopathy. I have mentored with anthroposophic physician Kelly Sutton, MD in Fair Oaks, California and sat on the Board and involved in the formation and continuation of Sophia Michael Remedies, a free online web resource for homecare and health advice from an anthroposophic philosophy. I led the Anthroposophic Medicine Club at NUNM (founded by Dr Shawnte Yates), inviting speakers to speak on various topics to the students and greater Portland Anthroposophic community. I am near completion of the five year International Post-graduate Medical Training with the Medical Section of the Goetheanum in Switzerland, and will be mentoring with neurologist Siegward Elsas MD at Klinik Arlesheim.
Prior to obtaining a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine, I obtained a Masters of Science in aqueous geochemistry from McGill University in Montreal. My career focus as a Professional Geologist was on human health and ecological risk assessments of contaminated sites across North America. It is through this work that the inspiration to explore natural and traditional medicines grew, to further foster the relationship of human beings with the planet to obtain a mutual relationship for healing. I have a strong passion for the outdoors, biodynamic gardening, skiing, disc sports, running, cycling, painting and knitting. I grew up on a small dairy farm in rural Ontario, Canada and strive to integrate these rhythms of nature into our busy daily lifestyles for nourishment.
I offer holistic primary care to children and adults of all ages, integrating biomedical, naturopathic, Chinese and anthroposophic medicine approaches and philosophy into individualized treatment plans. This allows me to address common clinical conditions with consideration of the patient’s temperament, lifestyle, biography, and environment, treating the whole human being, not just disease and pathology.
I’d be happy to answer any of your questions and explain my medical philosophy with you in a complimentary consultation. Please call 503-477-5051 when you would like to schedule a time. It’s my honor to work with patients and I look forward to working with you!
